In the book Dream Makers by Charles Platt, Norman Spinrad had this to say about his science fiction book A World Between:
"Part of what it's about is the paradox that faces all democratic systems when confronted by totalitarian systems trying to subvert them: how do you preserve your liberties while fending off a system that isn't playing by your rules? How do you destroy the enemies of democracy without losing what it is you're fighting for?"
